How to read the numbers
As proportions, not as a quote. The three levels differ mostly in the venue and the cost per guest, and it is that per-guest figure that decides the total more than anything else: catering is the largest single item at most weddings and grows with every invitation. Which is why two weddings of a hundred differ far more than two weddings of forty.
A contingency is not pessimism
The extra ten per cent is a separate line on purpose. Something always gets bought in the last week — a second bouquet, a lift for a grandmother, one more tier on the cake, a room for the band. A budget that ignores that is not optimistic, just incomplete.
What the calculator does not know
It does not know how many guests will actually come — a number that keeps moving until the last few weeks. It does not know when your deposits and balances fall due. It does not know that your parents are paying for the venue while you pay for the photographer. All of that is work for a budget that is alive: per-person lines recalculate when somebody declines, payments carry dates, and contributions are tracked apart from spending.
